Spc. Joel A. Taylor, assigned to the 1st Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas; died June 25 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds sustained when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device on June 24, 2008.

He is survived by his father, Scottie Allen Taylor, his mother, Caren Wallace Newman, brother, John S. Taylor and fiance, Hope Bohrer.

A special thank you to the friends and families of the fallen service men and women who invited me to photograph their grief and their efforts to continue life after suffering such loss.
